Masjid Jauharatul Islam in Phoenix, Arizona pictured above was the site of the 1981 "One God" theatrical production.
One God - a play about the life of Bilal ibn Rabah ran for 3 consecutives weeks to standing 'courtyard' only crowds. This particular play was so well received it was filmed and shown on the local PBS station Channel 8, translated into spanish, translated into Malay and excerpts displayed in a local newspaper in Malaysia and most importantly performed in special audience before the then King of Saudi Arabia.
Performed by the Bilalian Islamic Cultural Troupe, this play received rave reviews. The particular landscaping of the Phoenix Masjid enabled the staging and authentic clothing and swords were donated by the members of the Saudi Air Force.
One God is an historically accurate account of the life of Bilal (RA) as taken from his own words as related by H.A.L. Criag. A humble first effort of Mahasin Shamsid-Deen, but most certainly a play worthy of note which continues to be talked about by all who have been privledged to have seen it.
